An early Thursday morning garage fire in the 100 block of Centennial Avenue in Hanover appears to have been set intentionally, police and fire officials said. Hanover Fire Commissioner James Roth said the 12:14 a.m. fire at 119 1/2 Centennial Ave. was "incendiary in origin." It appears that someone set fire to something, most likely trash, on the outside of the garage, he said. The trash then caught the rest of the garage on fire. Four engines and one truck from Hanover Fire Department responded to the fire. Firefighters were at the scene until 1:45 a.m. Roth said the garage belongs to Margaret Wentz.

He said there is no estimate on damages yet, but said it is likely a couple hundred dollars. He could not say whether the owner was insured. A Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal investigated at the scene Thursday afternoon, but deferred comment to Hanover Police. Following the investigation, a bulldozer brought to the sire tore down charred boards, and ripped through damage caused by the fire.
