  • CAPTAIN MILLERS LAST DAY

    On Friday 6/17/22, Capt. Geoff Miller worked his last shift with Hanover Area Fire Rescue. Captain Miller known to us as Geo, began with the Penn Township Department of Fire Rescue on 9/20/2004. On 7/2/2007 Geo was promoted to the position of Captain and assigned to C-shift. During his off time, he loved to fly fish, run, and ride roller coasters. It was not uncommon to see him posting pictures with his daughters at some amusement park on a coaster. He also ran several marathons over the years and was an advocate for the health, wellness, and safety of all department members. On his last day, his crew, and the membership of Local 2045 held a luncheon for him.  We will all miss Geo and wish him the best for his new adventure as a Captain closer to home.

  • PASSING OF PAST CHIEF AND FRIEND

    IT’S WITH A SAD HEART FOR LOCAL 2045 TO ANNOUNCE, THAT RETIRED CHIEF OF PENN TOWNSHIP DEPARTMENT OF FIRE AND RESCUE, HANOVER BOROUGH FIRE DEPARTMENT, PENN TOWNSHIP EMERGENCY SERVICES, AND THE CHIEF OF PENN AND HANOVER VOLUNTEERS, FIRE CHIEF JAN CROMER HAS PASSED AWAY. CHIEF CROMER DEDICATED 43 YEARS OF HIS LIFE TO PROTECT THE GREATER HANOVER AREA. HE BOLSTERED THE FIRE AND EMERGECY SERVICES CAPABILITIES OF OUR COMMUNITY BY INCREASING STAFFING, ENHANCING AND CULTIVATING A CLIMATE OF PROGRESSION. HIS FOCUS TOWARD INTERMUNICIPAL AGREEMENTS PROVIDED OUR CITIZENS AN ALL HAZARDS RESPONSE AGENCY THAT HE WAS PROUD TO LEAD. CHIEF CROMER WAS ALSO A MENTOR TO MANY YOUNG FIREFIGHTERS SOME OF WHOM WENT ON TO BECOME CAREER FIREFIGHTERS HERE OR FOR OTHER DEPARTMENTS ACROSS THE EAST COAST. ADDITIONALLY, CHIEF CROMER TAUGHT MANY FIREFIGHTERS IN NUMEROUS DISCIPLINES AS AN INSTRUCTOR. JAN WAS THE TYPE OF CHIEF THAT WOULDN’T MAKE HIS CREWS DO ANYTHING THAT HE WOULDN’T DO HIMSELF. REGARDLESS OF WHAT WAS GOING ON AROUND THE FIRE HOUSES FROM CALLS TO NORMAL DAY TO DAY OPERATIONS, CHIEF PRIDED HIMSELF BY TAKING CARE OF HIS PEOPLE. IN HIS HEART WE CAME FIRST! THANK YOU SIR, FOR BEING OUR FRIEND AND CHIEF. PLEASE KEEP HIS WIFE, FAMILY, FIREFIGHTERS, AND EMS PROVIDERS IN YOUR THOUGHTS AS WE NAVIGATE THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

  • DOCTOR DAVID ROSS AND HIS STAFF PROVIDE LUNCH TO FIRST RESPONDERS

    TODAY, DOCTOR ROSS AND HIS STAFF PROVIDED LUNCH TO FIRST RESPONDERS. FIRE HOUSE SUBS MADE THE MEALS, AND THE STAFF OF DOCTOR ROSS ORTHODONTICS HANDED THEM OUT TO THE FIRST RESPONDERS. LOCAL 2045 WOULD LIKE TO THANK DOCTOR ROSS, HIS STAFF, AND FIREHOUSE SUBS FOR A GREAT MEAL.

  • ANNUAL RETIREES BREAKFAST

    ON JUNE 12TH, LOCAL 2045 HELD OUR ANNUAL RETIREES BREAKFAST. IT WAS GREAT TO SEE THE RETIRESS AND THEIR SPOUSES. THE WAR STORIES FROM THE PAST CAME WITH LAUGHS, SMILES, AND WELL MORE WAR STORIES. EVERYONE HAD A GREAT TIME, SEE EVERYONE NEXT YEAR.

    LOCAL 2045 WOULD LIKE TO THANK PERKINS RESTURANT OF HANOVER FOR PROVIDING A GREAT LOCATION, EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE, AND DELICIOUS FOOD.

    FIREFIGHTER JAMES A. STARTZEL

    Congratulations to our Brother, James A. Startzel, who retired with over 30 years of service to the Hanover Fire Department and for his unwavering dedication to IAFF Local 2045. Brother Startzel was instrumental in working to better our Local, and the position of his brothers and sisters of 2045. Serving multiple terms as the Local President he provided leadership in the fight for better pay, working conditions, and the fair treatment for all. All while showing the willingness to work alongside management to provide the best service for the customers we swore to protect.

    Brother Startzel was a coordinator for the “MDA Fill the Boot” in which the citizens of the Hanover Area very graciously helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for families in the local area fighting this terrible disease. Jim also gave his time to attend numerous MDA day camps and functions continuing his support for the kids and families.

    Many members of Local 2045, have been in the trenches with Jim for his 30 years. The best and the worst calls, trainings, shifts, it didn’t matter. The voice of Brother Startzel carried over everyone and everything. He was a voice of love, reason, gratitude, and respect.

    We as a Local, owe a “HUGE” Thank You to Brother Startzel and his family for the years of service and dedication. We love you Brother and will continue what you and the rest of the Retirees have started for Local 2045.
