Today “C” Shift from Local 2045 attended 2 tours in our first due. The first one was a downtown tour of Center Square. Commissioner Roth (retired), shared his 40+ years of knowledge by leading the tour and showing us the ins and outs of downtown Hanover. The second tour was SKF Metal Fabrication in Penn Township. SKF is on plant shut down and their safety director wanted us to look over their confined spaces. Local 2045 members reviewed their confine spaces to ensure we are prepared to make rescues from these areas if ever needed. Knowledge was gained today for everyone in attendance, Thank you to Commissioner Roth for sharing your knowledge and SKF for inviting us to be more prepared to serve you and our citizens for inviting us to be more prepared to serve you and our citizen!

  • Ring Removal Training

    Ring Removal Training

Today member from Local 2045 “C” Shift participated in our weekly shift training going over wedding ring removal techniques for gold rings along with tungsten type rings. Crews started out with the basic of removing rings with oxygen mask strap, rubber bands and some lubricant. Once this was done we turned to using power tools for the “emergency” removal techniques. Crews using a Dremel tool practiced cutting the ring off and providing much need protection to each other. Protection was provided by using flatten spoons so our victims would not be cut from the tool. We also provided cooling protection of the ring since the rescue operation of cutting the ring off causes the ring to be heated up. Great morning of training on something that we don’t get to do often but as always, “Don’t train to we get it right, train till we can’t get it wrong”

Happy Father’s Day from IAFF Local 2045

    IMG_1413-0.jpg

While firefighters across the country get to spend time with their Father’s today, many have to go to work and be prepared to protect the citizens they serve, as is the case today at the Hanover and Penn Township fire departments, B Shift is on duty this Fathers day.

While on vacation, Captain Spickler (46-A) and his family visited the Avon Fire Department this Father’s Day in the Outer Banks, posing with son Benjamin and ironically Truck 46. Proof, you can take the fireman out of the firehouse but you can’t take the fire service out of the fireman.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, especially the dads of B Shift who cant be with their dads and children today.
