On this brisk Sunday afternoon crews from “A” shift were out doing some initial pump training for our newest recruit, Firefighter Kevin Keyser. The pump training consisted of using water from a positive water source (hydrant). His training consisted of single hand line, multiple hand lines and also master streams. His training will continue for multiple weeks covering all types of scenarios and operations before he is qualified to drive our engines!

This evening members from Hanover Borough, Penn Township, and Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services participated in welcoming home over 120 veterans and their families. The veterans were on a bus trip to Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam memorial, along with other stops in the Washington DC area. This was a great opportunity to say thank you to many veterans which served our County!

Remember to change the battery in your smoke alarms while changing the time on your clocks. It could save your life!

Tuesday evening, Box 46-02 was dispatched for ” smoke in the area” of the 200 block of East Chestnut Street in Hanover Borough. As firefighters left the fire house on North Franklin Street, it became immediately clear this was a working fire as a heavy layer of smoke was all over the down town area. Units arrived to find smoke pushing from an attached block garage approximately 40×30 in size. The fire was upgrade to a working fire and then to a 2nd alarm assignment. Several mutual aid departments from York and Adams County assisted.

On Saturday, many of the Hanover and Penn Township firefighters had the distinct pleasure of attending and witnessing one of our brother firefighters Brian McDerrmit and past Penn Township EMS provider Casey Fahringer get married. It was a beautiful wedding and we wish this wonderful couple many many years of happiness.

This year “A” shift spent all day Monday and Wednesday testing our fire hose to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standard. This is done each and every year to every piece of hose to make sure when we are dragging it into a burning building, it does not fail! Over 15,000 feet of hose was tested with a few sections failing during the pressure testing. When a hose fails the test it is removed from service and discarded.

This evening members from Local 2045 participated in the 2017 National Night Out events. This years event was held in the parking lot of Target Outlet store on Wilson Avenue. Members of Local 2045 showed off our fire and emergency medical apparatus from Hanover Borough and Penn Township. A great showing from our community members, local and State officials, and surrounding communities made this years event a huge success. Thank you, Penn Township Police Department, for all the hard work in setting this event up!
