Firefighter Sponseller of Hanover Fire Department works on cutting the concrete floor during ATR training exercises today at the old Faulkner Auto Dealership on Eisenhower Drive. Both Penn and Hanover Fire Depts. have been using this facility for training for several weeks before the building is demolished.

Crews continue to make use of an acquired structure on Eisenhower Drive in Hanover Borough for training. This morning, C Shift crews spent some time refining their forcible entry skills on interior doors. The buildings are slated for demolition in the near future, so both departments are maximizing their training time before they are reduced to rubble. (Photo credit: FF Arnold)

Early this evening, crews were alerted via the Gamewell system of a fire alarm at a local multi-use fitness facility. Crews checked a rooftop HVAC unit due to the alarm being reported as a duct detector activation. No problem was located in the facility or on the rooftop unit and crews cleared a short time later.

Sutphen sales rep John Lawver stopped by Fire Station 49 this morning with a demonstrator aerial ladder for crews to look over. The Sutphen SLR 75 is Sutphen’s first venture into the straight ladder market. PTDFRS currently has an apparatus committee in-place to look at all of the current aerial options with the hope of replacing the current Truck 49 in the next few years. At this point in time, no manufacturer or type of aerial apparatus has been decided upon and the committee is evaluating all possibilities.
Firefighter Doug Kemmerly was sworn in as fire captain this evening at the Hanover Borough Council meeting. Doug, a nine year veteran, had his captains badge pinned on him by his wife Danielle. Hanover C-Shift firefighters, Doug’s old shift, along with Chief Cromer, Deputy Chief Clousher and several of Doug’s family members were on hand to watch him being officially promoted. Captain Kemmerly will have command of A-Shift effective Thursday, July 28, 2016.

It Was A Good Day!
Hanover and Penn Townships career and volunteers were back at the old Faulkner Car Dealership on Eisenhower Drive again this evening for more training on cutting commercial building roofs as well as using a stokes basket to remove an injured person from atop a building via basket and ladder truck. Some good training on a skill we seldom get to do in our area.
Stations 46 and 49 were dispatched for a vehicle accident with fire in the parking lot of Giant Foods on Eisenhower Drive this evening. Engine 49 arrived to find a Volkswagon up over the curve into a bush, all occupants were out of the car, no injuries. Hanover Borough Police investigated.
Firefighters from Hanover and Penn Township were alerted for the house fire at 1870 Smith Station Road in Heidelberg Township Thursday evening. Units arrived to smoke showing from the basement of a two story, single family dwelling. Photos by EMT Casey Smith
