An actual fire emergency is not the time to find out if you have discharge or relief valves that don’t work, primers not working, or valves / gauges leaking. We test our pumps every year to be proactive towards the process of maintaining our apparatus.
Annual fire pump testing goes a long way toward addressing potentially life-threatening problems. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) fire pump testing requirements are issued with and detailed procedures for performing these tests.
The Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) also requires annual pump testing, and the results help determine the fire suppression capability of your community, which will be reflected in local insurance rates.

Today after shift training, crews noticed some local youth playing football in a neighboring park. The kids were asked if they wanted some additional players, and they agreed. Although the final score remains unknown, the kids were more than elated to “toss the pigskin” with their local firefighters.

Crews enjoyed an evening of handing out candy. There were some great costumes out tonight.

Every October, the Foundation sponsors the official national tribute to all firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year. Thousands attend the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.
This year, 119 Firefighters were honored at the memorial. IAFF Local 2045 members assisted in the transportation group and family escort.

PSA: The dry conditions in the area lately have made outdoor vegetation very dry and susceptible to fire. Please use caution burning outdoors.

After training today, our own Union President and Firefighters were spotted assisting a local youth with repairing a broken bike. We believe moments like this are an opportunity to connect with youth in the community.

Shortly after, Units were dispatched to an appliance fire on Centennial Ave. The fire was contained to the oven and quickly extinguished.
