A little over a hour into shift change, C-Shift was dispatched by York County for a structure fire at 108 Arwco Drive IN Penn Township. Shortly after responding it became evident this was going to be a working fire with a very black header of smoke showing over town. A working fire assignment was immediately requested. Engine 46-1 arrived first laying in from the hydrant as Truck 49 took the Alpha side. Three hand lines and a Blitz Fire was placed into service off E46-1, as firefighters were greeted with a fully involved attached garage to a two story single family dwelling. Crews had the fire under control within about 45 minutes with extensive overhaul operations needed. The origin and cause of the fire was an unattended kerosene heater to close to combustibles in the garage, being used to keep pipes from freezing in the below zero temperatures.
