C-Shift from both stations 46 & 49 hosted a retirement dinner Sunday afternoon for firefighter Fred Sentz who will be hanging up his turnout gear and retiring next week after serving Hanover Borough for 35 years. Fred’s wife Sandie, daughter Mandy and grandson Grant also joined us for dinner. Retired Hanover firefighter Jeff Spielman also joined C-Shift for dinner.

Truck Slams Into Broadway House
A Shift responded Tuesday evening for a vehicle accident in the 1300 block of Broadway, vehicle reportedly into a house with possible rollover . Eng 49-2, 46-1, Amb 49-3 and MICU 49-2 all responded from Clover Lane fire house. Driver was self extricated prior to arrival and was possibly intoxicated. Moderate damage to porch of house and no apparent interior damage. Vehicle struck a pole and speed limit sign and appears rolled over once and landed upright. Hanover PD investigated.

B Shift Goes To Suzi Suds
Hanover and Penn Twp firefighters were dispatched Saturday evening for a dryer on fire inside Suzi Suds on Carlisle Street in Hanover Borough. Truck 46 arrived under the command of Captain Clousher to light smoke conditions from exterior, heavy smoke conditions on the interior. Truck 46 crew grabbed “the can” and put the fire out. Further investigation found the fire extended into from the duct work into the structure. A hand line was stretched from Engine 49-2, the truck was extended to the roof while crews opened up the walls inside the facility. The fire was knocked, and all units were in service within one hour. -
New Probationary Firefighter
Newly appointed probationary firefighter Jay Lalley starts his career with the Hanover Fire Department in March 2015. Firefighter Lalley was sworn in at the Hanover Borough Council meeting on February 25, 2015 and will be assigned to C- Shift. IAFF Local 2045 wishes FF Lalley a long healthy and safe career. -

Newly appointed probationary firefighter Timothy Tyler started his career with the Hanover Fire Department in January. Firefighter Tyler reports to fire academy at H.A.C.C. in March 2015. Firefighter Tyler will be assigned to B Shift on completion of the fire academy.IAFF Local 2045 wishes FF Tyler a long healthy and safe career.

Garage Off With Extension in Township
A little over a hour into shift change, C-Shift was dispatched by York County for a structure fire at 108 Arwco Drive IN Penn Township. Shortly after responding it became evident this was going to be a working fire with a very black header of smoke showing over town. A working fire assignment was immediately requested. Engine 46-1 arrived first laying in from the hydrant as Truck 49 took the Alpha side. Three hand lines and a Blitz Fire was placed into service off E46-1, as firefighters were greeted with a fully involved attached garage to a two story single family dwelling. Crews had the fire under control within about 45 minutes with extensive overhaul operations needed. The origin and cause of the fire was an unattended kerosene heater to close to combustibles in the garage, being used to keep pipes from freezing in the below zero temperatures. -
Early Morning Carlsile Street Fire
Captain Clousher (46-B) directs operations at a working fire at 972 Carlisle Street early Wednesday morning. Stations 46 & 49 were alerted at 02:11 hours for a house fire with people trapped. Truck 46 arrived to smoke showing to the rear of the two story occupied duplex, captain 46-B requested the working fire assignment immediately. Quick work by the crew of Truck 46 in locating and assisting six residents including five children to safety from apartment 972 1/2. The crew from Engines 46-3 and Engine 49-1 advanced hand lines to the second floor finding a small fire in the wall of the rear bedroom and extending. Truck 46’s crew went to the roof but didn’t need to make a cut, fire was under control by that time. Initial investigation indicates point of origin to be back wall near a electrical outlet. Chief 49 had command. -
RIT Goes To New Oxford Fire
B Shift was awakened around 03:00 hours Thursday morning to assist Adams County company 33 on a working basement fire on New Chester Road. Engine 46-1 and Rescue 49 were alerted for the RIT assignment. While en-route, a MAY Day was called on the scene for a firefighter that had fallen through the floor into the basement. The fire fighter self extricated himself with minor injuries. Both units crews stood by on fire ground until released by command 33.

Icy Roads Cause Crash With Confinement
Just after shift change Sunday morning, C-Shift firefighters were alerted to a crash with rollover and possible entrapment on the Abbottstown Pike. Engine 46-3 arrived to the same crash Adams County dispatched in the 33-14 box. Units quickly assisted Adams County Engine 33-2 with stabilizing the vehicle and the extrication of the occupants in the Toyota Camry by doing two door pops. Engine 46-1, Rescue 46, EMS 49 as well as fire police also assisted on the incident. -
Wire Cloth Dust Fire Again
Another Friday night fire at Hanover Wire Cloth on Middle Street brought a box alarm. Truck 49 operates as companies brought the fire under control within thirty minutes.
