  • Small Fire at Ross Orthodontics

    Thursday morning, Hanover and Penn Township Fire Departments along with Penn Township EMS responded to 135 Elm Avenue in Hanover Borough at Dr. David Ross Orthodontics for a reported basement fire. Units arrived on location with nothing showing from the exterior. Upon investigation, firefighters found cardboard boxes on fire caused by a battery operated drill over heating possibly. Firefighters carried the burning box outdoors and used a pressurized water extinguisher to knock the small fire. Units took up in about thirty minutes.

    Truck 46 and Quint 29 prepare to go back in service after being alerted to UTZ Quality Foods on High Street in Hanover Borough for a fire on the roof. A fire was found in one of the stacks. The box was placed in service in about thirty minutes.

    For the second time in less than twelve house Hanover and Penn units responded to assist on a house fire, this one Box 33-101 on Maple Grove Road in Paradise Township. Dispatched on the working fire and then for RIT.

    Saturday morning, Stations 46 & 49 were alerted to a house fire on Pumping Station Road in West Manheim Township, Box 52-13. Units arrived to station 52 firefighters beginning an attack on a well involved duplex. As crews were battling this fire, Air 46 was involved in a crash while responding to the fire, sadly, the driver and only firefighter on board Early Shoemaker, died at Hanover Hospital after a tremendous effort by Penn Township EMS to save him. Early indications are our firefighter suffered a medical emergency while driving. Firefighter Shoemaker served the Eagle Fire Company #2 for 43 years as a volunteer.

    Crews Make Quick Work Of Hanover Fire

    Shortly before 21:00 hrs. on Monday evening March 7th, first alarm units were alerted for a report of a house on fire to the rear of 215 Carlisle St. in Hanover Borough. Hanover PD arrived first and confirmed a “fully-involved” structure to the rear. Engine 46-1 and Assistant 49 (Cromer) arrived to find a small two-story structure to the rear of 217 Carlisle St. with a well-involved first floor. E46-1 advanced a CAFS attack line and made swift work of the fire via an aggressive interior attack. Crews remained on-scene for a little over one hour conducting the investigation and overhauling the structure to look for remaining fire. Mutual-aid units on the “Working Fire Dispatch” included E52-2 (Pleasant Hill) and Adams County Rescue 33 (United). No civilian or fire service injuries were incurred.     Dispatched Tuesday afternoon to assist SAVES on a working structure Fire. Engine 46-1, Rescue 49 and Car 46-3 responded as RIT.

    Shortly before noon, first alarm units (E46-1, E49-2, TRK 49, & EMS) were alerted to Suzi Sudz Laundromat on Poplar St. in Hanover Borough for a reported dryer on fire. First arriving units found that the fire had been mostly extinguished with an in-premises dry chemical extinguisher. Crews overhauled the dryer, checked for extension, and ventilated the structure. Assistant 46 (Crouse) had the Poplar St. Command.
