Working Fire At Hanover Wire Cloth
Captain Kevin Adams catches some fresh air after battling another working fire in the stack At Hanover Wire Cloth located at 500 East Middle Street in Hanover Borough Monday evening around 17:30 hours. Commercial Building Fire (B-shift)

The B-Shift Brothers were awakened around 03:30 hours Monday morning for the commercial building fire in Adams County at Miller Chemical Company on Radio Road. Hanover and Penn Township firefighters operated at the five alarm building fire for over thirteen hours, with Engines 46 and 49, Truck 46 and 49, Portable foam unit, and several support units from both departments.

Apartment Bldg. Fire With Entrapment (A-Shift)

Hanover and Penn Township firefighters responded around 03:00 hours Friday morning in Penn Township for a reported apartment building fire on Alvin Street with possible entrapment. Two Penn Township police officer’s arrived to find residents self evacuating and with the report of maybe a man still inside. Making entry the two officers located and removed one unconscious adult make to safety prior to FD arrival. Engine 46-1 arrived to find heavy smoke conditions in the common hallway of the four unit building with fire in the kitchen of the one apartment. Several deceased pets were located and removed.

Another Arson Fire – Suspected Arsonist Caught

Engine 46 sits behind crime scene tape after yet another arson fire in Hanover Borough. An adult male was detained by a young observant United States Marine who noticed he was acting suspicious in an alley off Fulton Street. Noticing smoke coming from a shed, the Marine held the suspect in a choke hold until Hanover Police officers arrived and took him into custody.This was the last of many arson fires over a few week period that plagued the Hanover Borough and Penn Township communities.

House Fire On Granger Street (C-Shift)

Sunday afternoon around 17:30 hours, York County Box 49-05 was struck for the house fire at 533 Granger Street in Penn Township. While en-route, York County 911 advised chief 49 they were receiving multiple calls for smoke from a house.A working fire assignment was dispatched for a basement fire in a duplex unit with heavy smoke pushing from the front and rear of the structure.Hanover and Penn Twp. units made fast work of the fire and placed the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

Garage Fire (C-Shift)

C-Shift firefighters caught a working garage fire on Hanover Street in Hanover Borough Monday morning. The fire was ruled arson. -
B Shift Goes To Suzi Suds
Hanover and Penn Twp firefighters were dispatched Saturday evening for a dryer on fire inside Suzi Suds on Carlisle Street in Hanover Borough. Truck 46 arrived under the command of Captain Clousher to light smoke conditions from exterior, heavy smoke conditions on the interior. Truck 46 crew grabbed “the can” and put the fire out. Further investigation found the fire extended into from the duct work into the structure. A hand line was stretched from Engine 49-2, the truck was extended to the roof while crews opened up the walls inside the facility. The fire was knocked, and all units were in service within one hour. -
Garage Off With Extension in Township

A little over a hour into shift change, C-Shift was dispatched by York County for a structure fire at 108 Arwco Drive IN Penn Township. Shortly after responding it became evident this was going to be a working fire with a very black header of smoke showing over town. A working fire assignment was immediately requested. Engine 46-1 arrived first laying in from the hydrant as Truck 49 took the Alpha side. Three hand lines and a Blitz Fire was placed into service off E46-1, as firefighters were greeted with a fully involved attached garage to a two story single family dwelling. Crews had the fire under control within about 45 minutes with extensive overhaul operations needed. The origin and cause of the fire was an unattended kerosene heater to close to combustibles in the garage, being used to keep pipes from freezing in the below zero temperatures.
