Around 05:30 this morning, York County 911 contacted Station 49 to determine the capabilities of their foam trailer for an incident in Baltimore County, MD. A determination was made by Chief 61 (Myers), who was on-scene, to have Foam 49 respond to the incident. A tractor trailer carrying truck tires caught fire while traveling on northbound Interstate 83, just south of Exit 36 (Maryland Line area). Foam 49, along with Engine 49-1, made the 27 mile response and staged upon arrival. Upon conferring with the incident commander, it was determined their services weren’t needed. Foam 49 is a trailer that carries (2) 275 gallon totes containing 1/3% Universal Gold AR-AFFF foam concentrate. Numerous other appliances are carried on the trailer to support foam firefighting operations such as attack lines, portable monitors, etc. The trailer is typically pulled by Service 49-2, which is a Ford dually. Foam 49 is a regional asset and is available for response upon request.
