Truck 46 and Quint 29 prepare to go back in service after being alerted to UTZ Quality Foods on High Street in Hanover Borough for a fire on the roof. A fire was found in one of the stacks. The box was placed in service in about thirty minutes.

Fire Prevention Detail At South Western High School

This morning, PTFD Clover Lane staff handled a fire prevention detail at South Western High School. As the second part of our annual fire prevention program for the Preschool Program, staff set up the “Squirt house” and gave a tour of Engine 49-1. Roughly a dozen children “extinguished” a fire and toured the apparatus.

Aerial Operations Course On Truck 46
Today, HACC Instructor Sam Clark taught an Aerial Operations Refresher course utilizing the new Truck 46. The purpose of this day-long course was to cover the finer points of the unit’s operation such as work envelope, scrub zone, jacking operations, etc. Final equipment mounting and training is taking place and the unit is expected to enter frontline service in the very near future.
Second Fire Of The Day
For the second time in less than twelve house Hanover and Penn units responded to assist on a house fire, this one Box 33-101 on Maple Grove Road in Paradise Township. Dispatched on the working fire and then for RIT.

Truck 49 Handles A Transfer To Adams County Fire Station 1

Late this morning, Truck 49 transferred to Adams County Fire Station 1 (Gettysburg) as Company 1 and surrounding units worked a house fire in Straban Township. Truck 49 handled no calls for service in the hour they stood-by.
Honoring One Of Our Own
Today, the Eagle Fire Company #2, the Hanover Fire Department along with hundreds of firefighters, friends and family members celebrated the life of 43 year volunteer firefighter Earl Shoemaker, who died in the line of duty March 12, 2016 while responding to a working house fire in West Manheim Township. Both the Eagle Fire Company and Hanover Fire Department thank everyone for their help in honoring our firefighter, our friend and our brother.

Duplex Fire On Pumping Station Rd
Saturday morning, Stations 46 & 49 were alerted to a house fire on Pumping Station Road in West Manheim Township, Box 52-13. Units arrived to station 52 firefighters beginning an attack on a well involved duplex. As crews were battling this fire, Air 46 was involved in a crash while responding to the fire, sadly, the driver and only firefighter on board Early Shoemaker, died at Hanover Hospital after a tremendous effort by Penn Township EMS to save him. Early indications are our firefighter suffered a medical emergency while driving. Firefighter Shoemaker served the Eagle Fire Company #2 for 43 years as a volunteer.
