Quarterly Aerial Maintenance On Truck 49

This morning, Truck 49 received one its quarterly maintenance sessions which was conducted by Penn Township “C” Shift (and Hanover FF Waltemyer). Services conducted by staff during this maintenance included: greasing frame lubrication points (suspension, driveline, etc.), aerial grease lubrication points (waterway, joints, etc.), and a full operational and visual inspection of the aerial. Routine maintenance like this extends the life of the vehicle, saves the department service dollars, and reveals potential problems.

Fire Prevention Activities Continue

IMG_20151015_101625483[1]Fire prevention activities continued today with a detail at New Beginnings Child Care Center in Penn Township. Here, FF Kemmerly from the Hanover Fire Department dresses up a staff member in turnout gear and SCBA. The detail was broken into several portions: a lecture in the classroom, dress up for those who wished to do so, a tour of Truck 49, and lastly, extinguisher training for staff members.

Fire Prevention Activities Continue At Penn Township Assisted Living Facility

The day’s fire prevention activities continued with fire extinguisher training for the staff of Columbia Cottage of Hanover. Many businesses throughout Hanover Borough, Penn Township, and West Manheim Township conduct annual in-service fire extinguisher training for their employees. Utilizing the Bullex system (shown) allows efficient and environmentally responsible extinguisher training. Here, FF Charlie Hale directs a staff member on extinguisher use while FF Jason Kopp runs the control system.

Hanover Street Elementary Fire Prevention

Penn Township and Hanover Fire Departments Fire Prevention team took the show on the road again today to Hanover Street Elementary School where an auditorium full of children and teacher learned about escape plans, smoke detectors, meeting places as well as watched the antics of Helmet, Played by FF Smith trying to kick a field goal while Capt. Amspacher kept doing the old “Lucy” trick from Charlie Brown show where she pulled the football out just as Charlie Brown attempted to kick the ball….well, the captain did that numerous times for Helmet. That’s okay, a yellow penalty flag  was thrown by the official Bo played by FF Startzel.

Firefighters Angel, Waltermyer, Arnold, and Sponseller, Kemmerly, Johnston and fire police captain Angel played vital rolls assisting in the successful and fun program.
